Hats Off to Peace Project

Baseball caps, top hats, cowboy hats, derbies and wizard hats...each style is a cultural statement made by the wearer. Add a sports logo, national flag, patriotic colors and the statement becomes more personal. Students at the Loysville Youth Development Center in Pennsylvania spent time designing symbols for their own personal cultural identifiers, writing in their journals, and creating hats to reflect their individual culture. These pictures show the basic steps to the construction and decoration of some of the hats that were created to reflect each student's cultural identity.
